Art & Expression in Grief

TEllING TRUE STORIES

a journal filled with unique, creative ways to open a dialogue with grief itself. “Being allowed to tell the truth about your grief is an incredibly powerful act,” she says. “This journal enables you to tell your whole story, without the need to tack on a happy ending where there isn’t one.”

Grief is a natural response to death and loss―it’s not an illness to be cured or a problem to be fixed. This workbook contains no clichés, timetables, or checklists of stages to get through; it won’t help you “move past” or put your loss behind you. Instead, you’ll find encouragement, self-care exercises, and daily tools, including:

• Writing prompts to help you honor your pain and heartbreak
• On-the-spot practices for tough situations―like grocery store trips, the sleepless nights, and being the “awkward guest”
• The art of healthy distraction and self-care
• What you can do when you worry that “moving on” means “letting go of love”
• Practical advice for fielding the dreaded “How are you doing?” question
• What it means to find meaning in your loss
• How to hold joy and grief at the same time
• Tear-and-share resources to help you educate friends and allies
• The “Griever’s Bill of Rights,” and much more

Your grief, like your love, belongs to you. No one has the right to dictate, judge, or dismiss what is yours to live. How to Carry What Can’t Be Fixed is a journal and everyday companion to help you enter a conversation with your grief, find your own truth, and live into the life you didn’t ask for―but is here nonetheless.

Grief Mates is a completely FREE writing workshop that provides the opportunity to use therapeutic writing prompts to get to know yourself in grief.

What is Grief Mates?

Informed by countless conversations with grievers and her own personal experience, Meghan encourages the exploration of grief-related topics such as regret, disconnection from self and others, and living forward with loss through a carefully crafted writing workshop. Prompts are posted on a private Facebook group on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and Meghan personally monitors comments. Participants are encouraged to post responses, though lurking is encouraged. Because there is no right way to grieve, just reading may be as helpful as writing.

No one knows your grief as well as you.

Everyone’s got an opinion about your grief, but you’re the expert in your own life.

If you’re like many people, you’ve stopped talking about your grief. When you’re met with well meaning, but utterly dismissive comments like “everything happens for a reason,” or “your person wouldn’t want you to be sad,” or even “that’s still bothering you?!” it’s just easier to not say anything at all.

The thing is, grief needs expression. The Writing Your Grief 30 day e-course gives you the space to tell the truth about what it’s like to be you, right here and now, without the need to sugarcoat it or censor yourself to protect other peoples’ feelings.

Writing Your Grief helps you explore common aspects of grief (like grief and memory, grief shame, and that deep loneliness that comes with grief). It’s not always easy. Grief hurts. You won’t find your grief suddenly resolved, but you will find the oddly comforting relief of having space to hear your own voice.

From the author of It’s OK that You’re Not OK, join the best-selling 30 day course that lets you tell the truth about your grief

How it works

Once a day for a full 30 days, you’ll receive a new writing prompt. These aren’t your typical “tell us about the funeral” writing prompts. They’re complex and nuanced, designed to help you reflect and explore not just your grief, but what it’s like to be YOU right now, in all of this.

This self-guided course helps you tell the whole truth about grief. Saying it on the page – even if you can’t yet say it to the people in your life – is incredibly powerful.

Use the daily prompts to get to know your grief, listen for what you might need to feel supported or understood, bring your writing to your therapy sessions, use them to help you get started on that grief memoir you’ve been wanting to write – whatever you’d like.
